The client need

The existing Laserlite verandah became extremely hot on sunny days, making the outdoor area uncomfortable and, at times, practically unusable when the homeowners most wanted to be outside.

They wanted to replace it with an insulated patio that would create a much cooler and more comfortable outdoor entertaining space. However, with a large roof area covering the existing spotted gum deck, maintaining plenty of natural light into both the patio and the adjoining home was also an important part of the design.

Our Solution

Livin Renovations removed the existing Laserlite verandah and replaced it with a large Stratco Cooldek insulated patio built over the existing spotted gum deck.

75mm Cooldek insulated roofing was selected to create a cooler, more comfortable space while also allowing the larger spans required for the approximately 45m² patio. To avoid making the outdoor area and adjoining home feel dark, six translucent Rooflites were incorporated throughout the roof to allow plenty of natural light to filter through.

The patio was also fitted with 10 integrated LED downlights, two ceiling fans and a 3600W Heatstrip heater, creating an outdoor area designed to be comfortable and usable across different seasons and into the evening. Provision was also included for powered outdoor blinds to be added in the future.

Design & Features

The approximately 44.9m² patio uses 75mm Stratco Cooldek insulated roofing supported by 120 Outback beams and 90mm SHS columns. The thicker Cooldek system was selected to suit the large covered area while creating a more comfortable insulated outdoor environment.

Six translucent Rooflites were distributed through the roof to maintain natural light beneath the patio and into the adjoining home. The finished space also incorporates 10 integrated LED downlights, two ceiling fans and a 3600W Heatstrip heater, with GPO provision for future powered outdoor blinds.

Project Management

Livin Renovations managed the project from design and documentation through to approvals, construction and final inspection.

The existing Laserlite verandah was removed before construction of the new Cooldek patio over the existing spotted gum deck. We coordinated the structural installation and electrical works, including the Rooflites, integrated downlights, ceiling fans, Heatstrip heater and provision for future powered outdoor blinds.

Project Outcome

The new Cooldek patio completely changed how the homeowners can use their existing outdoor area. What had previously become an uncomfortably hot space on sunny days is now a much more practical and comfortable area for relaxing and entertaining.

Importantly, improving the thermal comfort did not come at the expense of natural light. The six Rooflites allow daylight through the large insulated roof, helping keep both the patio and adjoining areas of the home feeling bright.

With integrated lighting, ceiling fans and outdoor heating, the space can now be enjoyed across a much wider range of weather conditions and well into the evening.

What Our Client Said

★★★★★

We recently had Mayank and the team from Livin Renovations build our Stratco Cooldek patio in Mount Martha, and we couldn’t be happier with the finished project or the experience from start to finish.

Mayank was fantastic to deal with throughout the whole process. Communication was excellent, he always arrived when he said he would, and he was always more than happy to talk us through the project.

The finished Stratco Cooldek patio looks fantastic and has completely transformed the space. We included Rooflites, downlights, fans and a heatstrip, and everything has been finished to a really high standard. We can now use the space in summer without roasting in the heat, and during the winter with the sunlight coming through the rooflites!

One thing that really stood out was the value. There were a number of things other companies treated as optional extras and added significant costs for, whereas Mayank included them in the quote without the price ballooning. It made the whole process much easier and gave us confidence that we were getting a quality result without constantly being hit with additional costs.

Overall, we couldn’t be happier with the project. Mayank and the whole Livin Renovations team were a pleasure to deal with, the communication was great, the workmanship was excellent, and the finished patio is exactly what we were hoping for.

Highly recommend Mayank and Livin Renovations.
